Congratulations on being a new drone pilot! We all understand the excitement of getting a new drone. But don’t rush into flying just yet! It’s relatively straightforward to take off, but do you know every button’s function or have a good understanding of how your drone reacts to the remote controller? Before you head out and get it in the air, you should know your drone well. As it’s the best way to prevent crashes and flyaways. Furthermore, it’s being responsible for the safety of yourself, others, and your drone. (Read the How to Fly a Drone: Beginner’s Guide)
Operating a drone can sometimes be tricky. So to avoid any silly missteps, it’s essential to read the product’s manual and get familiar with apps and pay close attention to preflight preparations. After you understand your drone’s capabilities and limitations choose a safe test flight zone and practice some basic maneuvers before you take the leash off. Additionally, remember to take advantage of free online resources. You can find all you need to know and do before your maiden flight on the Support and Tutorials YouTube channels. Finally, if any problem occurs, you can always contact 4DRC Support on e-mail for help.
Here, we’ve summarized 14 tips to help first-time drone pilots prepare for their air adventures.
【JUST GOT A NEW DRONE?】
① READ THE MANUAL
You can find user manual and safety guidelines under the Download section on your drone's official webpage. We recommend that you read manual and watch tutorial videos before you fly. Be familiar with the drone controls and apps.
② PRACTICE WITH THE FLGHT SIMULATOR
Learn how to use basic flying controls and intelligent flight modes via the flight simulator in the apps. Familiarize yourself with the controller inputs and learn how to stay oriented at the controls.
【CHOOSE THE RIGHT ENVIRONMENT】
③ AVOID OBSTACLES
Be aware that the flight speed and lighting conditions may affect the obstacle avoidance system's performance.
Do not overly rely on the obstacle avoidance. Thin ropes, telephone lines, transparent objects, etc. are hard to detect. Thus, you should be hyper-aware of the flight environment and make smart decisions about when and where to fly your drone.
④ AVOID ANIMALS
The ultrasound sent out by drones can cause unease among animals. Also, keep your drone away from birds to prevent bird strikes.
⑤ DO NOT PRACTICE AROUND PEOPLE
Flying a drone may draw a lot of attention from people, and it can be distracting. Avoid flying near crowds to reduce the risk of accidents. Find an open area for you to fly your drone safety.
⑥ CALIBRATION AND PREFLGIHT CHECK
Calibrating the compass before a flight is essential for safety. Also, don't forget to fully charge the battery and check if the propellers are correctly installed. Finally, pay attention to the apps' notifications.
⑦ SET RETURN TO HOME(RTH) ALTITUDE
In RTH mode, your drone will fly to the preset altitude and the return to the home point automatically. We recommend you to set the RTH altitude before you take off. This will ensure that your drone won's fly into any obstacles on the way back.
⑧ CHECK GPS SIGNAL
Fly your drone when at least ten satellites are found, and the GPS icon is followed by more than 4 bars. Strong GPS signal is crucial for a safe flight.
⑨ HOVER BEFORE HEADING OUT
After taking off, it's recommended to let your drone hover for around 30 seconds to verify aerial stability. Continue flying after confirming that your drone is under control.
⑩ USE BEGINNER MODE TO PRACTICE
Turn on beginner mode to enable a distance and altitude limit. This ensures all sensors and GPS are on and helps you keep your drone within line of sight. For the first few flights, focus on drone operations instead of viewing images on your screen.
⑪CHECK THE WEATHER CONDITIONS
Be aware of the weather changes during the flight. Do not fly in adverse weather conditions like rain, fog, lightning, snow or strong wind.
⑫ PAY ATTENTION TO THE BATTERY STATUS
Always check your drone's battery status during flight and leave enough battery for your drone to return safely. Note that flying against the wind uses batteries faster than flying downwind.
⑬ DON'T FLY AGGRESSIVELY
Push the control stick gently and avoid sharp movements. This allows you to have enough time to make adjustments and thus reduce the chance of a crash occurring.
⑭ DON'T FLY IN REVERSE
During a flght, especially when you fly your drone out of direct sight, avoid flying in reverse as it may collide with an unseen obstacle.
Practice makes perfect. Enjoy the learning process and have fun flying! And one more thing, don’t forget to inspect your drone regularly and store it properly.
Bought a 4D-V14 drone. There is no user manual in the package (if possible, give a link where you can download the instruction in Russian language.
I always lost contact or out of control with my 4DRC f8 fast mini when i tried to change the camera location like from front to bottom, when at the air high about 35 meters , I just press the RTH button to land it safely and works perfectly… Always !
